PHOTO OF THE MONTH / May 2008

Brugge, Belgium 2008.

Coincidences 1

Chicago, USA 2007.

New label. About flagrant synchronicity and subtle repetition. About elements appearing at the same time in the same place, amongst photographers known as the frame. Let 's call it coincidence.

Portrait 21

Anonymous, Seneffe, Belgium 2008.

What is a portrait? Do you need someone 's looking into the camera? Or do you need more? What are the conditions? And what about focussing on someone in his life environment when he is not aware of the photographers presence? In the street? Do you need someone 's permission? Is that enough? Do you need to tell something substantial about someone? If you photographed a woman you even didn 't talk with but she was looking into the camera and you did it in a 'streetphotography' way? Possibly this is not a portrait. What is a portrait? Is this a relevant question? Perhaps (not).

Quote 14

Seneffe, Belgium 2008.

' Photography can never grow up if it imitates some other medium. It has to walk alone; it has to be itself. Let us first say what photography is not. A photograph is not a painting, a poem, a symphony, a dance. It is not just a pretty picture, not an exercise in contortionist techniques and sheer print quality. It is or should be a significant document, a penetrating statement, which can be described in a very simple term - selectivity. '

Berenice Abbott, in "Infinity" magazine, 1951.

Photographers 13

Brugge, Belgium 2008.

What about photographs in which the main actor is hardly visible? Who is the main actor and why? Is the photographing person the main actor, precisely because he is hardly visible? Are there additional reasons? The fact he is the only one who is standing still and looks in opposite direction? Or is it the man in the wheelchair?

Viva Blackpool 1

Trailer/fragment from the BBC series 'Blackpool', broadcasted on Canvas, Belgian television, last winter.

New label 'Blackpool'! From June 28 till July 7 we 'll have a trip to England. Main destination will be Blackpool at Great Britain 's west coast. Posts in this label must generate my inspiration to make an amazing report on this Entertaiment Reserve, that strongly appeals to my imagination.
